I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the JDRF Northwest - Nordstrom Beat the Bridge in its efforts to find a cure for diabetes and it's deadly complications. Every day 35 more children are diagnosed with diabetes. This diagnosis means a lifetime of insulin shots and extremely devastating complications, not to mention the fact that diabetes on average shortens a person's lifespan by 15 years and the only hope is a cure. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the largest private funder of diabetes research in the world and since it was founded in 1970, has awarded over $900 million to diabetes research. JDRF has implemented a campaign to raise $1 billion over the next five years in order to accelerate the cure for diabetes.

Last year's Beat the Bridge event raised a record $1,000,000 for diabetes research. This year, our goal is to BEAT $1,000,000 for research! On May 21 the Nordstrom Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes run and walk to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will take place. I will be there because I want to find a cure for diabetes for the 19 million Americans who have to live with this disease.

I was deleting a few old e-mails stored in Outlook when I ran across one from C&C saying how I needed to authenticate my outgoing e-mail or else I wouldn't be able to send e-mail through Outlook. For the past 6 months I've been logging on to Webpine to send e-mail and reading e-mail through Outlook, so I fixed that problem when I clicked on the "authenticate outgoing mail" box. I didn't realize it was that easy!

Heard this on the John Tesh radio show and decided to look it up on the internet. What a smart idea:

Sanitize Your Kitchen Sponges. Heat a wet kitchen sponge in a microwave-safe dish in the microwave oven for approximately 2 minutes so that it achieves an internal temperature of 160 degrees to kill harmful bacteria.

I did it to my sponge and all the soap inside started foaming out. It was cool! Yay for sanitariness!

There is a freak on Craigslist that wants an iPod Nano for a "cheap and reasonable price" of 120 to 160$. I think it's ridiculous that he thinks he can get one for below retail value when every major retailer is sold out of them. I was happy to have gotten one today for my brother at the UBookstore, which has plenty because they only sell them to UW students. Irrational people are irritating.

I was trying to weed myself off of Starbucks Caramel Frappuccinos, but seeing how I am suddenly getting a string of early shifts at work (I usually start at 11 the earliest), I don't think this will start anytime soon. Perhaps it will make a good New Year's Resolution. Also, for some reason I have the second most hours this pay period at 94 hours over 15 days. That's huge!
